Writing is a valuable and essential part of everyday life in the United States. The ability to write is a requirement for a multitude of positions, applications, and everyday life encounters. The value of writing does not simply hide behind the portal of professional and business. Not only does writing give those without a voice a platform to speak, but it also gives individuals a chance to elaborate on the things they may already speak of and advocate for. Writing can give individuals a lectern to give their opinions and also start important conversations that they may want to have. Writers are able to use techniques that can enhance one’s experience when reading and also increase the effectiveness of what is being said. Through writing one can undergo all the senses, including touch, smell, sight, hearing, and taste. Writers will also encounter a sixth sense that was not named, which is known as freedom. One has the freedom to be who they are, they have the freedom to be who they are not, and they have the freedom to be who they have not met. Whether fact or fiction, writers are able to communicate openly about what they experience, feel, or believe in. To have the ability to write is to have the ability to be free. As the young and famous author, Anne Frank, once said, “I can shake off everything as I write; my sorrows disappear, my courage is reborn.”

Frank, Anne. Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl. New York: Bantam, 1993. Print.
